BETEWU

BETEWU was created as a reflective theatre work after thorough research into circumstances caused by Covid-19. BETEWU explores artistic men’s mental health: What do men who write, direct, and act go through in their off-stage lives? “Monna ke Nku ha lle” is ancient wisdom. It encourages men to cry, however, in society’s eyes that’s not manly, “ha re tlo lla le basadi”. No longer able to vent themselves in the centre of the kraal, men seem to be at a loss, and now more than ever, quote the ancient saying “Qcina ndoda … monna ha lle o nka qeto. Ho lla ha ho thuse.”
