An anthropology student gets a culture shock when she needs to do an assignment on the LGBTQIA+ community. While she is working on her assignment, Sebabatso makes alliances in the LGBTQIA+ community on campus and she becomes involved in campus politics. During a campus protest caused by the student dean’s actions, she discovers that there are individuals who belong to both the LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities.
Porselynnkas Dokiementêr
Long before Jack Parow and Fokofpolisiekar, Porselynnkas was a poetic and more theatrical equivalent to the Voëlvry movement. Banned by local radio stations, loathed by the church, and considered out-of-bounds, Porselynnkas, nevertheless executed 34 poetry happenings, distributed 21 poetry volumes, made music, broadcasted a radio drama and caused anarchy in theatre between 1996 and 1999. In the mid 1990s Afrikaans theatre needed a black sheep – and found it in the form of Porselynnkas, one of the first performance poetry groups in the country.
The Intervention

But there are no copies to be found anywhere. Their quest takes them back to both their childhood homes and a history that might be best left forgotten.

NEVERLAND
NEVERLAND is a theatre-dance film motivated by dissociative identity disorder – a disorder characterised by the presence of two or more distinct personality states. Dissociative identity disorder, previously called multiple personality disorder, is usually a reaction to trauma. In South Africa, especially in the Black culture, this state of mind would be regarded as some form of witchcraft. In the White culture, it is seen as a disorder. The title, NEVERLAND takes inspiration from J.M. Barrie’s original story of Peter Pan and the idea of a space / place that exist only in a child’s mind.
Telematic 360 Report
Telematic 360 was an online artistic programme, started by the Pan African Telematic Art Project (an initiative of the Vrystaat Arts Festival), and funded by the National Arts Council of South Africa. This project equipped ten artists over seven weeks with skills, knowledge, and competencies in the field of poetry or extended reality. The artists created five collaborative projects: Four augmented reality projects and one virtual project. These can be accessed via the digital report (download / read the report here).
Interactive Art Ensemble: Global Taxi Ride
The Interactive Arts Ensemble 2021 invites the audience to participate in a virtual immersive interdisciplinary artistic experience that addresses colonial constructs, such as land ownership, fashion, consumerism, gender politics, and education. Take a taxi ride through South Africa, Spain, and New York City to strive for community relationships beyond geopolitical borders, amidst a global pandemic. Audience members are strongly encouraged to wear headphones to maximize this experience.
Air It Out
AIR IT OUT aims to generate a creative, fun, and colourful event, that will create a safe public space to speak about healthy mental wealth concepts and to encourage acceptance and kindness both for ourselves and for each other. AIR IT OUT hopes to normalise mental health challenges by creating a visual display online in solidarity with everyone who has struggled with it, knows someone who has struggled, or those whose lives have been affected by the mental health of others.
