NEVERLAND is a theatre-dance film motivated by dissociative identity disorder – a disorder characterised by the presence of two or more distinct personality states. Dissociative identity disorder, previously called multiple personality disorder, is usually a reaction to trauma. In South Africa, especially in the Black culture, this state of mind would be regarded as some form of witchcraft. In the White culture, it is seen as a disorder. The title, NEVERLAND takes inspiration from J.M. Barrie’s original story of Peter Pan and the idea of a space / place that exist only in a child’s mind.
